The Volunteer Team “Kimolistes Ngo” appreciating the special religious tradition of the Cyclades, with honor to our Virgin Mary with the hundreds of faces and names in the archipelago of our islands, announces the lecture, having as theme: The miraculous Virgin Mary of the Cyclades over time: Theotokonyms, Worship, Representations.

Our Lady of the Cyclades

This lecture, hosted on Kimolos in August 2021, attempts to present a flashback related to the honor of the Virgin, ranging from the early Christian centuries, through the years of Byzantium to the modern era. The faces and depictions of the Virgin reveal the political, theological, and artistic aspects of a long course of time, ending to the modern demonstrations of her pilgrimage to the islands of the Cyclades.

On the video we are about to watch, landscapes accompany names of the Virgin Mary in the Aegean Sea mainly in the Cyclades. Her popular worship echoes historical conjunctions and theological reflections. Michalis Holeva’s music accompanies excerpts of Paul Evdokimov’s text about the Virgin.
