Cine Kalisperitis – General information

Courtyard of the Holy Church of Agios Chrysostomos

Cine Kalisperitis is called the open-air cinema of Kimolos island, that our voluntary team “Kimolistes” provides and presents with screenings for free, to the Kimolian islanders, and to tourists alike.

Its name comes from the first star becoming visible during the sunset, the Kalisperitis as we traditionally call it on our island.  Its first open-air screening started in 2014 and continues since then, during the peak of tourist season from June to September, each year with one or two film screenings per week, depending on weather conditions.

Cine Kalisperitis has received the following Awards:

2023: 2nd place BEST CITY AWARDS 2023 (SILVER AWARD), in the category: Culture & Sustainable Development, with the proposal’s title: “Cine Kalisperitis Screenings: Sustainable Development by Featuring Kimolos’ Landscape, Environmental Protection, and Volunteerism”.

2022: BRAVO Sustainability Dialogue & Awards (2022), Ambassador of Sustainable Development on Greece, with the proposal: “Cine Kalisperitis’ Contribution to Sustainable Development unifying the 7th Art with the Environmental Culture”.

2021: 1st Place   ECTN AWARD 2021, (EUROPEAN UNION) in the category of “Cultural and Creative Industries (CCIs) contribution to Cultural and Creative Tourism development”, under the title: “Enhancing Cultural restructure of Sustainable Tourism’s Perspectives on Kimolos Island”.

Cine Kalisperitis main trait and qualitative difference has to do with the various screening locations, alternating among the most picturesque places of the island! Under the Kimolian star-lit sky, in the heart of summer, covered with the wonderful island scents, on the ground, the sand and the pebbles, a unique kind of entertainment with cultural characteristics takes place at the beaches of Alyki, Ammoni, Prassa, Bonatsa, Klima Mavrospilia, Psathi’s old port, on Polyaigos island; at Chorio’s squares at Giorgila’s, Sotiras’, at the Primary School’s yard, at the Afentakion’s outdoor yard, at Saint Chrysostomos’ and Saint Eustathius’ yards, plus at Kimolos Medieval castle, “the Kastro”.

In addition, the natural beauty of the Kimolian scenery is accentuated with the decorative patterns of lanterns and torches added with zeal and enthusiasm. Every single detail plays a significant role in contributing to the ideal atmosphere while watching a wide range of  best films, of all times. The audience is transferred through the magic travels, from  the imaginary or realistic worlds of action,to those of laughter and drama, reaching another spectrum.

Cine Kalisperitis goal is to continue providing an entertaining experience with quality status, offering excitement to both its young and adults audience, implementing constant impovements. With this philosophy in mind, it initiated the interactive relationship with the audience, offering the chance to suggest specific films, they wish to watch every next summer, or put forward any other idea they may have, so as the screenings end up being, even more delightful!

The open air cinema of your dreams, Cine Kalisperitis, awaits for your message at kimolistes@outlook.com to get in touch with you.

We are deeply thankful to Mr. Zinos Panagiotidis and his Film production company “Rosebud21” for the films we screen, and  the continuous support we receive. Our appreciation goes to the  Municipality of Kilmolos for giving us permission to use the island’s public places, to all of you for Cine Kalisperitis financial assistance, either for equipment or any volunteer offer, that contributes in realizing the open-air screenings.
