DESCRIPTION
The route starts from the Pano Mersini beach in the west coast of the island and it’s crossing the entire extent of it. It ends at Faros beach (Ammoura) in the east coast. The signage is non-existent for most of the route and is essentially a set of remnants of old shepherds’ paths and walkways among the low vegetation.
On top of a hill, to the left, one can see a deserted grazer’s house and we move towards it. With direction to the east we are heading towards a ravine, which we leave behind. Then we come across two more and we cross them vertically.
In front of us lie the mountainous boulders of the inland, which are incurred by vertical, green ravines. The route changes to the left, the direction becomes north – northeast leading us to a sharp uphill until the top of the hill. Having the top ahead of us, we move towards the right side. From there and having already reached the highest point of the route, we continue in straightening downhill heading east – northeast and finally we arrive at the east coast, where there is a altitudinal column buried between the rocks. That’s a sight of the island completely different from the west, wilder, sharp with boulders which lead directly to the sea.
From now on, the path becomes clear and the course has a downhill inclination. Lower, between the enormous formations, one can see the beautiful beach of Faros (Ammoura) and later a lighthouse also appears, on a hill above the beach.
